Description
PIR Motion Detector Module – Passive Infrared Motion Sensor
The PIR Motion Detector Module is a passive infrared sensor designed to detect motion from objects that emit infrared radiation, such as people and animals.
The sensor detects changes in infrared radiation within its field of view and provides a digital trigger output when motion is detected. It features adjustable sensitivity and an adjustable delay time, making it suitable for a wide range of motion-detection and automation projects.
The module uses a Fresnel lens to provide a wide detection area and help with signal filtering. It can operate from 4.5V to 20V DC, while its digital output provides a 3.3V TTL signal.

How It Works
A PIR sensor detects changes in infrared radiation produced by warm objects moving within its detection area.
When a person or other heat-emitting object moves across the sensor’s field of view:
- The PIR sensing element detects a change in infrared radiation.
- The control circuit processes the detected signal.
- The module generates a digital HIGH output.
- A microcontroller can use this signal to activate another device or perform an action.
When no motion is detected, the output returns LOW.
Applications
- Motion detection systems
- Security alarm prototypes
- Automatic lighting
- Smart home projects
- Arduino projects
- Robotics
- Automation systems
- Intruder detection prototypes
- Energy-saving lighting systems
- DIY electronics
- Educational electronics projects
Compatibility
The module can be used with compatible:
- Arduino boards
- Microcontrollers
- Robotics controllers
- Automation systems
- Digital input circuits
- DIY electronics projects
Important Note
The detection distance and delay time are adjustable. Actual detection performance can vary depending on the environment, object movement, temperature, installation position, and other factors. The module detects changes in infrared radiation rather than identifying a specific person or object.
